Biography

SUBRAY is the personal archive and creative practice of a multidisciplinary artist working across painting, photography, writing, and experimental media. The practice is rooted in careful observation and explores how places, materials, and lived experiences shape individual and collective memory.

Rather than treating each discipline as separate, SUBRAY approaches creative work as an interconnected process. Photography informs painting, writing expands visual ideas, and material experimentation continually influences new directions. The archive documents not only completed works but also the research, notes, and evolving questions that shape the creative journey.

With an interest in contemporary visual culture and museum-inspired presentation, the work embraces restraint, clarity, and thoughtful composition. Ordinary environments, subtle changes in light, weathered surfaces, and overlooked moments become starting points for larger conversations about identity, movement, and time.

Artist Statement

I am interested in the moments that are often overlooked—the changing quality of light across a wall, the texture of weathered materials, the rhythm of unfamiliar cities, and the quiet spaces between movement and stillness. Rather than searching for extraordinary subjects, I find meaning within everyday observation.

Painting, photography, and writing are not separate practices. They are different ways of exploring the same ideas. A photograph may become the foundation of a painting, while a written reflection may later develop into an exhibition or series. Each discipline expands the possibilities of the others.

I see the creative process as an ongoing conversation rather than a search for definitive answers. Every project introduces new questions about memory, landscape, identity, and perception. The archive reflects this continuous process of exploration, allowing completed works and unfinished ideas to exist alongside one another.

Selected Background

The practice is informed by travel, architecture, literature, contemporary art, and everyday observation. Research often begins with photography and field notes before evolving through painting, writing, and material experimentation. Rather than following a fixed methodology, each project develops organically, allowing concept and process to shape one another throughout its evolution.

Working Principles

• Observe before interpreting.
• Value process as much as outcome.
• Allow different disciplines to inform one another.
• Embrace experimentation and revision.
• Create work that invites curiosity rather than certainty.
