The Space Between

Reflections

I have become increasingly interested in the moments that rarely receive attention. They exist between destinations, between conversations, and between finished works. These pauses are often dismissed as empty space, yet they contain some of the richest opportunities for observation.

Many of my photographs begin not with an intention to capture something extraordinary, but with waiting. Waiting for light to shift. Waiting for people to leave a frame. Waiting for a familiar place to reveal itself differently. The same patience exists within painting, where progress is often measured less by decisive action than by the willingness to reconsider each mark.

Creative work has taught me that silence is rarely empty. It carries movement beneath its surface, allowing ideas to develop gradually rather than appearing fully formed. Looking back, many of the works I value most emerged not from certainty, but from periods of hesitation and sustained attention. This reflection is an acknowledgment of those quieter intervals that continue to shape the work in ways that often remain invisible.
